Fall Foliage Drives Near Conshohocken, PA

As summer fades and the air turns crisp, the parks, trails, and back roads around Conshohocken transform into one of the best fall foliage destinations in the Philadelphia area. Pennsylvania has one of the longest and most varied fall foliage seasons in the country, and you don’t have to travel far to see it. Here’s a local guide to the best fall foliage drives near Conshohocken, brought to you by John Kennedy Ford of Conshohocken.

Valley Forge National Historical Park

Just a short drive from our showroom, Valley Forge National Historical Park pairs Revolutionary War history with some of the most photogenic fall scenery in the region. The five-mile Joseph Plumb Martin Trail loops past many of the park’s most historic points, framing monuments in reds, oranges, and golds. It’s an easy trail to walk or bike, and just as enjoyable as a scenic driving loop through the park’s main roads.

Wissahickon Valley Park

Wissahickon Valley Park is consistently ranked among the best places in the region to see fall color. The park spans 1,800 wooded acres across both Philadelphia and Montgomery Counties, with more than 50 miles of trails winding along Wissahickon Creek. The seven-mile Forbidden Drive is the easiest way to take it all in, leading to the Thomas Mill Covered Bridge, the last remaining covered bridge in Philadelphia and one of the park’s most photographed fall spots.

The Schuylkill River Trail

For a foliage drive that follows the water, the Schuylkill River Trail runs right through Conshohocken and connects Phoenixville and Pottstown all the way into Philadelphia, with long stretches offering unbroken views of the river framed by autumn color. Whether you’re driving the connecting back roads or parking to walk a section on foot, it’s one of the most convenient fall color corridors around, since it literally runs through town.

Fort Washington State Park

A bit farther down the Schuylkill corridor, Fort Washington State Park connects to the Wissahickon Trail, also known as the Green Ribbon Trail, and offers an ADA-accessible observation deck overlooking much of Montgomery County. It’s one of the easiest ways to take in a wide sweep of fall color without committing to a long hike, making it a great add-on stop for a fall day trip.

Green Lane Park

For a bigger day trip, Green Lane Park is the largest park in Montgomery County at 3,400 acres, with a trail network ranging from easy, flat walks to higher-elevation hikes with sweeping views. It’s one of the best spots in the county for both fall color and birdwatching in the same trip.

The Best Way to Take In the Season

Whether you’re winding through Valley Forge, walking Forbidden Drive in the Wissahickon, or following the Schuylkill River Trail right from downtown Conshohocken, a fall foliage drive is a lot more enjoyable in a vehicle built for changing conditions. Ford’s lineup of SUVs, including the Escape, Bronco, Bronco Sport, and Explorer, all offer available or standard four-wheel drive, so wet leaves on a shaded back road or an early frost won’t cut your foliage tour short.
